My TV Debut Promoting National Sunglasses Day

In June I made my local news debut and let’s just say, I’m not going to be pursuing a job as a morning news anchor anytime soon! But that being said, I had so much fun and I’m immensely grateful for the opportunity to share the importance of protecting your eyes from UV damage all year round.

The feature was to promote National Sunglasses Day (June 27) and remind the community about the importance of wearing sunglasses, not just in summer. While the UV from the sun may seem harmless, choosing not to wear sunglasses can seriously impact your vision.

Just like you wear sunscreen to protect your skin from being burnt, wearing proper eye protection can prevent swollen, red, sensitive eyes as well as much more serious problems like cancer of the eye or eyelid.

While yes, sunglasses can be seen as a fashion accessory (just check out my Instagram if you don’t believe me!) they’re also a major health necessity regardless of whether it’s sunny or cloudy outside. I never leave home without a pair!

The news feature came about after a collaboration I did with VSP on Instagram where we gave away 5 pairs of Nine West sunglasses to promote National Sunglasses Day. After this promotion, they approached me with the opportunity to be interviewed on the local news which I immediately jumped at.

But you know what’s funny? I don’t even watch the news!

Also, I never appreciated quite how early news presenters and interviewees have to wake up! While I describe myself as an early bird, I had to be on set at 6.10am which meant my alarm went off at 4:15am (Wahhhhh!) I didn’t even have time to wash my hair which is why it was just slicked back that day.

But luckily, the station is bursting with coffee! Everywhere you go there’s coffee. I think coffee definitely makes the news station go ‘round!

Before my time slot, there was a segment on adopting puppies, so you can imagine how I felt going on after 5 adorable little pups. I joked with everyone that no one would even watch my segment because I couldn’t compete with puppies!

Even though I was really nervous, I just tried to relax and actually had fun! It’s definitely an experience I won’t forget and look forward to more opportunities like this in the future.
